In the18th and 19th centuries, skillful cabinetmakers created boxes that combined function and beauty. These beautiful and fascinating boxes served a wide variety of purposes. They held expensive teas, protected household silver, and provided organized storage for ladies’ sewing supplies, among other uses. Viewed as indispensable accessories, boxes reflect the styles of their times. British artist Alfred P. Munnings (1878-1959) was one of the most highly regarded horse painters of the first half of the twentieth century, renowned for his Impressionistic racetrack and foxhunting scenes and for his equestrian portraits. Highly skilled works by Munnings can be found in many private collections in the Brandywine valley, a region rich in equestrian events. This exhibition celebrates the Brandywine Conservancy's 30 years as the beneficiary of the Radnor Hunt Races. "A Jihad for Love is a dispatch from the outer limits of marginalization: a documentary on devout Muslims struggling with their homosexuality." - Nathan Lee, New York Times. This brave documentary from director Parvez Sharma probes the delicate potential for the co-existence of sexuality and religion among gay Muslims. Filmed in twelve different countries and nine different languages, at time when Islam is under constant attack by both external and internal forces, Sharma's film broaches a topic that is beyond taboo in a tactful, engaging manner.
